چکیده

Abstract Gearboxes are usually lubricated with oil or grease to reduce friction and wear dissipate heat. However, gearbox applications that cannot be grease, for example in the space food industry, commonly solid lubricants. Especially lubricants a lamellar sliding mechanism like graphite molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings can enable very low coefficients of friction. This study investigates temperature behavior surface rolling-sliding contacts application dry gears. In an experimental setup on twin-disk test rig, case-hardened steel 16MnCr5E (AISI5115) is considered as substrate material together amorphous, hydrogenated, metal-containing a-C:H:Zr DLC coating (ZrC g MoS -bonded -BoC). The curves show reduced significantly increased operating area both coatings. Due sufficient electrical insulation -BoC, thin-film measurement-known from contacts-was successfully transfered contacts. results contact measurements reveal pronounced thermal which interefere by accelerated oxidation. shows gears under ambient air conditions challenging tribological requires tailored

Friction models for sliding dry, boundary and mixed lubricated contacts

Friction, lubrication, and wear have a strong influence on the performance and behavior of mechanical systems. This paper deals with different friction models for sliding contacts running under different conditions. The models presented are suited to different situations, depending on the type of contact, running conditions, and the behavior of interest. The models will be discussed from simula...

A Triboscopic Investigation of the Wear and Friction of MoS2 in a Reciprocating Sliding Contact

Reciprocating sliding tests with ball-on-flat geometry were performed on a duplex coating at low speeds in moist air (RH=60%). The coating, 55 nm MoS2 on 35 nm of TiN, was deposited by ion-beam assisted deposition onto a steel substrate. Friction coefficient (μ) and electrical contact resistance (Rc) measurements were recorded at ~2μm intervals along the track; these spatially resolved measurem...

Preparation of Chameleon Coatings for Space and Ambient Environments (preprint)

Tribological coatings of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ), gold, diamond like carbon (DLC) and MoS2 were synthesized using magnetron assisted pulsed laser deposition (MSPLD). The coatings were synthesized in four-component and three-component combinations that included YSZ/Au/DLC/MoS2, YSZ/Au/MoS2, and YSZ/Au/DLC. A range of coating compositions was studied to explore coating optimization for l...

Sliding friction on wet and dry sand.

We show experimentally that the sliding friction on sand is greatly reduced by the addition of some-but not too much-water. The formation of capillary water bridges increases the shear modulus of the sand, which facilitates the sliding. Too much water, on the other hand, makes the capillary bridges coalesce, resulting in a decrease of the modulus; in this case, we observe that the friction coef...
